Basseterre, Saint Kitts (Public Infrastructure News) – The Saint Kitts Water Services Department (WSD) is benefitting from technical training in seawater desalination equipment this week at the Basseterre Desalination Plant (BDP). The multi-day session is being facilitated by technology company Danfoss through its representative Rob Pugh and his team.
Public Infrastructure News spoke with Rob about the training session on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
BDP Supervisor Francis Zelaya explained that the workshop brought together key personnel at the WSD, Park Hyatt Resort and others, for an in-depth view of the internal components of the high-pressure pumps that make desalination possible.
Zelaya indicated that in addition to deconstructing the high-pressure pump on Tuesday, the team would also learn how to recombine those components under Rob’s supervision on Wednesday, the final day of the workshop.
Danfoss is a global manufacturer of technological equipment for multiple industries. Its high-pressure pumps are critical components of the Basseterre Desalination Plant and support the production of water through desalination on the island.
